CodeBus Africa workshops help youth approach technology in an intuitive way through linking programming with creative self-expression. The workshops are a means for youth access to programmatic thinking and feelings of accomplishment that build self-confidence in technology.
The workshop curriculum has been developed by Finnish technology education initiative Mehackit, and adapted in a co-creative manner to serve learners of different age and proficiency level in each of the CodeBus tour’s ten countries. In the 1-day workshops, youth will get familiar with the basics of coding through an actual project – creating their own song – together with their friends. A party featuring the students’ original music will wrap up each workshop. Dance-offs guaranteed!
The workshops are free and open for all, but target especially girls and marginalised youth to support equal opportunities in technology. The material for Mehackit’s creative programming workshop with Sonic Pi can be found at http://sonic-pi.mehackit.org/
